Creality K1

Short answer

The Creality K1 is a fast CoreXY with a direct-drive extruder, and it prints PLA best at a 200 to 210 C nozzle and a 55 to 60 C bed, with a short retraction and full cooling after the first layer. The K1 can run PLA quick, so the work is slowing the first layer and the outer walls for a clean finish. Dry the filament and these numbers give a strong first print.

01 Starting PLA settings for the K1

These numbers suit a stock Creality K1 with the direct-drive extruder. The nozzle, bed, and fan values track the Prusament PLA datasheet, which lists a 210 C nozzle with a 10 C window, a 40 to 60 C bed, and full fan. The retraction baseline and the speed tuning are Marqilo starting points for the K1’s direct-drive, fast setup.

SettingRecommendedWhy
Nozzle temp200 to 210 C200 C is a safe start; 210 C helps the K1 keep up at high speeds.
Bed temp55 to 60 C60 C gives the strongest first-layer grip on the textured PEI.
Retraction0.4 to 0.6 mmDirect-drive baseline. Tune within 0.4 to 0.6 mm for stringing.
Part cooling100%Off or low for the first 2 to 3 layers, then 100 percent. PLA takes full cooling.
First layer200 C, 60 C bed, 20 mm/sSlow and warm, so the first layer bonds to the sheet.
Print speed100 to 200 mm/sMarqilo starting point. The K1 prints PLA fast; slow the outer walls for finish.

02 How to adjust PLA settings

  1. Level and clean the bed

Heat the bed to 60 C, level for a light paper drag at all corners, and wipe the textured PEI with isopropyl alcohol.

  2. Set the temperatures

Nozzle to 200 C and bed to 60 C is a safe start that melts PLA clean on the K1.

  3. Slow the first layer

Hold the first layer at 20 mm/s so it bonds, then let the print speed climb for the rest.

  4. Tune retraction

Start at 0.5 mm. If fine strings appear between moves, step toward 0.6 mm.

03 What goes wrong

Most failed PLA prints on the K1 trace to speed and moisture. A first layer or outer wall run too fast lifts or goes rough, so slow those down. Wet PLA pops and prints cloudy, so dry the spool. A nozzle that is too cold under-extrudes at high speed, which clears when you lift it toward 210 C. The first-layer adhesion guide covers the bed-side fix.

Frequently asked

What PLA nozzle temp for the Creality K1?
200 to 210 C. Start at 200 C and move to 210 C at higher speeds. The Prusament PLA datasheet centers on 210 C with a 10 C window.
How fast should I print PLA on the K1?
100 to 200 mm/s is a safe range for the bulk of the print. Keep the first layer at 20 mm/s and the outer walls at 50 to 80 mm/s for a clean surface.
What retraction for PLA on the K1?
0.4 to 0.6 mm. The K1 is direct-drive, so it retracts short. Start at 0.5 mm and tune within the range if you see stringing.
