How to adjust PETG settings
Dry the filament
PETG pulls moisture from the air. Dry it at 60 to 65 °C for 4 to 8 hours before a long print, or it will hiss, pop, and string.
Set the temperatures
Nozzle to 245 °C and bed to 80 °C is a safe start that melts PETG clean and grips the sheet.
Keep cooling low
Run the part fan off for the first 2 to 3 layers, then 30 to 50 percent. Full cooling weakens PETG layers.
Tune retraction for stringing
Start at 5 mm. If fine hairs appear between moves, add distance in small steps until the strings clear.
Use a release agent
On smooth PEI or glass, PETG can bond so hard it chips the sheet. A thin glue-stick layer works as a release agent.
Avoiddo not
- Printing wet PETG. It pops, strings, and turns cloudy, and no retraction tune fixes it.
- Running full part cooling from layer one. It weakens the layer bond on PETG.
- Peeling a PETG print off smooth PEI with no release agent. It can chip the sheet.
- Pushing print speed too high. PETG roughens and strings when it is rushed.
