Short answer
Filament storage is a war on moisture. Keep spools dry in a sealed bag or bin with desiccant, and dry them again before they print, and almost every print problem blamed on the filament goes away. The enemy is humidity in the air, and it ruins PLA, PETG, and nylon in days if you leave them open.
Why storage matters
Every common filament absorbs water from the air, some much faster than others. PLA holds up for weeks in a dry room; PETG, TPU, and nylon drink moisture in days. Wet filament pops and hisses at the nozzle, prints cloudy and stringy, and loses strength. How to store each material
PLA is the most forgiving and lasts weeks in a dry room, but it still keeps best sealed. PETG, TPU, and nylon need sealed storage from day one, because they absorb water fast and print badly when wet.
